Hey guys, happy October. See below for my newest show.
Before I start talking about all the events that have happened in the last couple of weeks, I want to talk about so many gay clubs closing down. Over the past year, some older and newer clubs have had to shutter. It’s no secret that I had a club called “Jimmy’s at Madison” that closed last October. We just couldn’t get past the pandemic effect that took its toll. However, we were not alone. Each club had their own special reasons for closing and it’s really nobody’s business why. The Las Vegas Eagle closed shortly after long time owner Judy Nelson passed away. The Spotlight closed after many years for unknown reasons, but they had a good run of over 15 years. The Freezone closed and rebranded itself as a straight country bar. It is now called Bonfire. Charlie’s Club closed after many years of being a popular country leather club. Most recently (and surprisingly) The Garden closed its doors. The Bent Inn and Resort has just closed. That makes seven clubs fade away. I was a patron and fan of all of these clubs and I will miss them very much. I performed in all of these clubs (except The Garden) and made many many friends.
Even with so many clubs closing, the ones remaining are going strong. Dear friend Stephanie Danderson has her weekly show at the Flex every Thursday. She has renamed the show “The Shady Pines Review” (Revue??) I thought I would be the first person she called, but alas, she picked some girls a little too young for Shady Pines! Best of luck to Stephanie and the Flex crew.
Over at the new club Dust, there is no shortage of entertainment. They offer shows several nights of the week. First, Showtunes with Auntie Norma and Rylynn return this Friday at 5 p.m. They also have the Winner Winner Chicken Dinner available for $10. Afterwards, Alizae Brooks hosts A new Show: Variety Revue! No Cover Before 10 p.m. The Haus of Toxx kicks off Halloween Month this Saturday night with Hocus Pocus! No cover all night! Also at Dust is a new show every Tuesday featuring Briana Douglas titled “What’s The “T.”
The WhatsUp.Vegas group helped me produce a show at the Composer’s Room last Sunday. The show was a hit directed by the wonderful Derek Daniels and his cast of “Circus Fierce” dancers. I hosted the show with Derek and we also featured Brianna Douglas, and the legend
Lawanda Jackson!
