Diversionary Theatre announces the San Diego premiere of “we are continuous,” written by Harrison David Rivers and directed by Kian Kline-Chilton. “we are continuous” will begin previews on Feb. 13 and will run through Mar. 9.

The run will also include at least ten $10 Prebys Foundation Access-For-All tickets, special nights for low-cost previews (Feb. 13-21), First Friday for the military (Feb. 14 complimentary tickets for active duty and veterans), and Pay-What-You-Will & Industry Night (Mar. 3), with The Clark Cabaret & Bar remaining open before and after each performance.

Kian said about directing this production, “I’m filled with so much gratitude—to be making my Diversionary debut, directing this profound play, and working alongside this incredible cast and design team. Harrison is one of my favorite playwrights, and this piece asks the ultimate question, ‘If you could have any conversation with the people you love most, and they would agree to anything that’s brought up, what would you say?’ In just 80 (or so) minutes, you’ll experience some of the most beautiful, raw, funny, and touching dialogue. Be ready to laugh, to cry, and maybe even to pick up the phone and call your mom. It’s a beautiful reminder that it’s never too late to reconnect with the ones we love the most.”

Harrison stated about this timely production, “I’m honored to be back at Diversionary Theatre with ‘we are continuous,’ a play that feels increasingly relevant with each passing day. We’re living in an incredibly chaotic moment. There is a lot of distrust. And a lot of fear. I know when I’m afraid, I turn inward. I get quiet. I keep things to myself. ‘We Are Continuous’ is about three very brave individuals who, despite their fear and misgivings about each other and the world they find themselves in, have chosen to share their hearts. They choose to be vulnerable with the audience and with each other. There is no real connection without vulnerability. And I believe that connection—finding ways to connect with each other no matter our beliefs and affiliations—is key to bettering our world.”

A poignant exploration of identity, love, and the invisible threads that connect us. Simon and his mother, Ora, have always been inseparable—two souls bound by a lifetime of trust and unspoken understanding. But when a life-changing secret comes to light, their relationship is thrown into turmoil. As they confront the truth, they must grapple with what it means to be family, forgive, and find a way forward when everything they thought they knew is suddenly in question. It is an evocative, heart-wrenching journey about the complexities of love and the bonds that define us.

Marti Gobel, Elliot Sagay, and Eli Wood all make their Diversionary acting debuts as Mother, Son, and Husband, respectively. Director Kian is also making their official Diversionary directing debut with this production.
