Another day, another discriminatory Executive Order.
We’re only a week into the second Trump Administration, and already Donald Trump and his MAGA allies are putting his politics above our troops: they’re trying to remove a whole class of people from military service, undermine our national defense and harm the lives of thousands of service members and their families. HRC is ready. It’s time to fight back.
Well-qualified transgender Americans have already been serving effectively in our armed forces for years. Banning transgender patriots from openly serving their country—in the name of waging a false battle against “gender ideology”—is cruel and discriminatory. PLUS, military officials, bipartisan lawmakers, and national security experts have warned that the ban will harm our military readiness at a time of great peril in the world.
Right now, the HRC, in conjunction with Lambda Legal, is filing suit against the trans troop ban and suing the Trump Administration to stop this harmful ban and protect our service members, many of whom are HRC members and supporters.
HRC strongly opposes the trans-military ban, which will be argued before the public and fought in the courts. The ban will directly affect thousands of transgender service members and their families. The same people and organizations pushing this ban also support reinstating “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” which banned lesbians, bisexual people, and gay men from serving openly in the military.
As with Trump’s other executive orders, chaos, cruelty, and retribution are the points. But we’re here not for defeat but defiance.
