A Public Fit Theatre Company presents the final show of its 2024-25 season, a staged reading of Elijah Young’s modern comedy The Cold Buffet with 2 performances – Friday, June 27 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, June 28 with a 2 p.m. matinee at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Rd. Doors will open one half-hour before showtime and admission is FREE.
The Cold Buffet follows the McCarthy family as they navigate the familiar obstacle course that is the traditional family get-together. Ceremonial obligations mix with the ever-changing dynamics of a modern-age family with dry humor, restrained tenderness, and a healthy dose of generational conflict. The Cold Buffet is a witty reminder that mealtimes can be minefields.
“It’s a quiet drama in the middle of a not-so-quiet comedy,” says director Andrew Calvert. “Or maybe it’s the other way around. The play speaks to me in such a specific way; as a child, you’re often protected from the ‘drama’ and as you grow up, you learn more and more about the weight of what was said against what was left unsaid.”
The Cold Buffet features the talents of Christopher Brown, Ashlee Grubbs, Barbara King, Ira Norwood and April Sauline. “It’s a great cast and a great way to end a very successful season!” says Calvert.
Immediately following each performance, audiences are invited to join the cast and production staff in a moderated discussion of the themes and discoveries presented in the play. This APf hallmark—The Buzz—ensures that the conversations surrounding captivating theatre are shared by the community. The Buzz is an expression of A Public Fit’s ongoing commitment to engaging audiences well beyond the limits of the stage. “In a way,” says Calvert, “the gathering of an audience is much like the gathering of a family!”
