Ceremony Celebrates Opening of Bob Marley Hope Road Attraction at Mandalay Bay
The world-famous Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign was illuminated in vibrant reggae colors during a special ceremony on Tuesday, July 1, at 8 a.m. to commemorate International Reggae Day and the grand opening of Bob Marley Hope Road at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson will join representatives from Bob Marley Hope Road at the legendary Strip landmark to honor the reggae icon’s enduring legacy while welcoming Las Vegas’ newest cultural attraction.
“This lighting ceremony embodies everything that makes Las Vegas the Entertainment Capital of the World,” said Commissioner Gibson. “Bob Marley Hope Road represents the innovative, culturally enriching experiences that draw millions of visitors to our destination each year. From the neon-lit Strip to intimate venue experiences, our community continues to evolve as a place where legendary artists’ stories are preserved and celebrated for new generations of visitors.”
“We’re thrilled to bring my father’s timeless legacy to life on the Las Vegas Strip with an experience that speaks to the heart and soul,” said Cedella Marley, executive producer of Bob Marley Hope Road. “Bob Marley Hope Road invites fans of all generations to connect with his powerful message of unity and love. There’s no better way to celebrate its premiere this month than on International Reggae Day.”
Bob Marley Hope Road features a groundbreaking dual-format experience that transforms throughout the day. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits showcasing Marley’s revolutionary impact on music and culture during daytime hours. By night, electrifying evening performances bring his timeless songs to life.
The iconic 25-foot sign, designed by Betty Willis in 1959, stands on the Las Vegas Strip south of Russell Road. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, the Googie-style landmark continues to welcome visitors to Las Vegas while celebrating the community’s diversity and pride. The sign, like the rest of the Las Vegas Strip, is located in unincorporated Clark County.
Clark County is a dynamic and innovative organization dedicated to providing top-quality service with integrity, respect and accountability. With jurisdiction over the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and covering an area the size of New Jersey, Clark is the nation’s 11th-largest county and provides extensive regional services to 2.4 million citizens and 45.6 million visitors a year (2022). Included are the nation’s 7th-busiest airport, air quality compliance, social services and the state’s largest public hospital, University Medical Center. The County also provides municipal services that are traditionally provided by cities to 1 million residents in the unincorporated area. Those include fire protection, roads and other public works, parks and recreation, and planning and development.
