Places to Take Mom on Her Special Day

By Debbie Hall with provided content

Along with dining and cocktails, there are events to celebrate moms. Below are our picks for some fun, unusual activities for mom.

Lion Habitat Ranch

Moms can enter the nonprofit wildlife sanctuary for $10 all weekend. It is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday through Monday. The Lion Habitat Ranch is a federal 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation located minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. The Ranch is home to lions, birds, and one charismatic giraffe. Many of the animals they care for are rescues, pet surrenders, or animals that otherwise need a comfortable, safe place to live out their lives. Visit lionhabitatranch.org for more info.

Cowabunga Bay

Cowabunga Bay in Henderson and Cowabunga Canyon Water Park in the Southwest are now open. The park features multiple water slides, a lazy river, wave pool, and kiddie pool. Amenities include locker rooms, showers, and changing areas. Cowabunga Bay is showing its appreciation for all the amazing moms out there. On Sunday, moms can enjoy a day of fun for free with the purchase of a ticket at the window. Visit CowabungaVegas.com for more details.

The 3rd Annual Bee-utiful Sunflower Run

Run through Las Vegas’ historic Gilcrease Orchard’s massive sunflower field to benefit Gigi’s Playhouse. Beyond Limits Running is proud to present the 3rd Annual Bee-utiful Sunflower Run at the nearly 100-year-old Gilcrease Orchard. The Bee-utiful Sunflower run has become a Mother’s Day tradition held at this iconic Orchard. The timing is perfect as you can present mom or grandma with a freshly cut massive sunflower on Mother’s Day. The race is walker- and stroller-friendly, so the whole family can participate together. Of course, feel free to dress to impress with sunflower-themed outfits. The perfect way to kick-off a memorable Mother’s Day. With race options starting as early as 6:30 a.m., there’s still plenty of time left to attend a local Mother’s Day Brunch around town after the race.
