The public is invited to the next meeting of the Friends of Nevada State Museum Las Vegas on Thursday, November 21.  Their speaker will be Dr. Su Kim Chung, Head of Public Services in Special Collections and Archives at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  Dr. Chung is also the curator for the collecting areas of entertainment, the LGBTQ community, and women’s history in Las Vegas. Dr. Chung has over 25 years of experience in these areas and has a strong reputation as a speaker on women’s history subjects.

Dr. Chung will speak on Jeanne Weir, a native of Iowa who moved to Nevada in 1899 to work as a history professor at the University of Nevada. She worked there until her retirement in 1940. Ms. Weir is best known for her work preserving Nevada’s history through her position as Secretary of the Nevada Historical Society for over 46 years.

Dr. Chung’s talk promises to be exciting and informative. It will focus on Jeanne Weir’s early collections activities in Nevada during the 1906/1907 time period.
