The Tony Award-Winning Musical Celebrating Humanity, Kindness, and Community Opens July 10
Audiences will have the opportunity to experience one of the most celebrated musicals of the past decade when Las Vegas Little Theatre presents Come From Away from July 10–26 on its Main Stage.
Written by David Hein and Irene Sankoff, the Tony Award-winning musical is based on the remarkable true story of what happened when the United States closed its airspace following the events of September 11, 2001. As thousands of flights were diverted, approximately 7,000 airline passengers found themselves stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland. What began as an unexpected crisis soon became an extraordinary demonstration of kindness, generosity, and human connection.
Rather than focusing on the tragedy itself, Come From Away shines a light on the compassion that emerged in its aftermath. The residents of Gander opened their homes, schools, churches, and hearts to complete strangers, creating lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. Through its uplifting narrative, the musical celebrates the resilience of communities and the power of people coming together during difficult times.
Since its Broadway debut, Come From Away has earned critical acclaim worldwide for its heartfelt storytelling, emotional depth, and infectious Celtic-inspired score. The production balances moments of humor and joy with poignant reflections on uncertainty and hope, creating an experience that resonates deeply with audiences of all backgrounds.
Las Vegas Little Theatre’s production is directed by Walter Niejadlik and Gillen Brey, with choreography by Hallie Lyons and music direction by Toby McEvoy. McEvoy will also lead the live musicians performing on stage, adding an authentic energy that enhances the show’s powerful storytelling.
The production features an accomplished cast of local performers who take on the challenge of portraying dozens of characters throughout the fast-paced musical. Through seamless transitions and dynamic ensemble work, the cast brings to life both the stranded travelers and the welcoming residents of Newfoundland, capturing the humor, humanity, and emotional impact that have made the show a global phenomenon.
For Las Vegas theatergoers, Come From Away offers more than an evening of entertainment. It serves as a reminder of the extraordinary capacity for kindness that exists within ordinary people. In a world often divided by differences, the musical highlights what can happen when communities choose empathy over fear and connection over isolation.
With its inspiring true story, memorable music, and heartfelt performances, Come From Away promises to be one of the summer’s most moving theatrical experiences, inviting audiences to celebrate the enduring strength of the human spirit.
