About L.A. Walker and the Enable Me Theatre Program
As the Executive Director of Social Issues Theatre, I, L.A. Walker, have spent my career
using the power of storytelling and performance to bring light to critical societal
challenges. Inspired by the caregiving journey of countless families affected by
dementia, I co-created Enable Me Theatre—a revolutionary program designed to
empower dementia care partners and healthcare providers through therapeutic theatre
techniques.
Enable Me Theatre offers a fresh perspective on caregiving by promoting self-
management of stress, enhancing emotional well-being, and fostering deeper
connections between care partners and those living with dementia. Through creative
expression, role reversal activities, and mindfulness tools, participants discover
actionable methods to reduce burnout, cultivate patience, and reclaim moments of joy
and stability in their caregiving journey.
For healthcare providers, Enable Me Theatre introduces innovative tools to build
empathy, improve communication, and increase awareness of the emotional nuances of
dementia care, ultimately enhancing the quality of care provided.
This program is more than a training; it is a movement to transform caregiving into a
