As a former World Cup champion, Ashlyn Harris’ documentary, Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story, and podcast, Wide Open with Ashlyn Harris, want to inspire everyone to remain determined and steadfast in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality.
“As a professional soccer player, there were so many repercussions to coming out as lesbian. Would it harm the team? Would I lose sponsorships? Would I lose my job? Ultimately, I decided that the most important thing for me to live a joyous, full life was to authentically be myself—to be open about it—and just maybe, my visibility would help others,” said Harris.
Through interviews with Harris, her family, and the coaches and teammates who shaped her, this documentary follows her climb to athletic glory, then tracks her post-retirement motherhood and advocacy for LGBTQ rights and women athletes.
