A Public Fit is now 12 and in its last pre-teen year! They’ve grown from a handful of friends sitting around a library table to a company staff of 16; they’ve employed scores of theatre professionals includng actors, designers, painters, technical craftsmen, and stage managers; they’ve imported designers from Chicago, Los Angeles and Texas, flown in actors from New York, California and Florida; and created an internship program, educational outreach, and formed community partnerships that have lasted for years.
A Public Fit, presented in partnership with the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, will debut Ironbound by Martyna Majok, a script-in-hand production directed by Jake Staley. On a desolate bus stop bench in New Jersey, Darja, a Polish immigrant, navigates love, loss, survival, and sacrifice over the course of twenty years. Through a series of thoughtfully drawn encounters with three pivotal men in her life, Martyna Majok’s Ironbound captures the quiet desperation and fierce resilience of a woman fighting for the American Dream from its margins.
