Fremont Street Experience is Celebrating 30 Iconic Years

By Debbie Hall

Fremont Street Experience marked a significant milestone on Dec. 14, celebrating its 30th anniversary and becoming the heartbeat of downtown Las Vegas. The celebration included activities and special events. Community members and visitors participated in the festivities, making the anniversary celebration inclusive for all.

It was the unveiling of Fremont Street Experience in 1995. This ambitious project transformed downtown into the city’s first immersive entertainment district and set a lasting legacy for Las Vegas’s vibrant culture.

The special anniversary panel was moderated by KKLZ 96.3FM morning show host Shawn Tempesta. The panel featured several key figures who helped shape Fremont Street’s legacy.

Former Las Vegas Mayor Jan Jones Blackhurst discussed leading the redevelopment effort that made the Fremont Street Experience possible, emphasizing the collaborative effort behind the milestone.

Don Snyder, the first president and CEO of Fremont Street Experience (1992–1996), reflected on the early strategic planning and collaboration. Originally open to traffic, Fremont Street transitioned into a pedestrian-friendly entertainment hub.

Joining them were Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, recognized for supporting downtown initiatives including a $1 million investment in the Neon City Festival; Jerry Turk, a key contributor to the project’s 1995 launch; Will Baker, interim CEO and senior vice president of operations; and Dana Reynolds, vice president of marketing, who continues to push innovation and guest engagement for the destination.

The festivities continued with a Menorah lighting ceremony led by Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley with the Rabbi of Chabad of Southern Nevada. Fremont Street was filled with seasonal spirit with holiday entertainment and choir performances. Later in the evening, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at The Canopy™ officially ushered in the holiday season downtown. Jessica Rosado of The Morning Blend hosted the ceremony on KTNV TV 13.

The night also launched the Neon Nights Holiday Lights Village, located next to Fremont Hotel & Casino at 3rd Street. Featuring festive light displays and a Santa meet-and-greet, the pop-up attraction adds even more sparkle to downtown and runs nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Dec. 19.

Thirty years later, Fremont Street Experience remains a vital part of downtown Las Vegas—blending entertainment, history, culture, and community while welcoming millions of visitors each year. As the city continues to evolve, Fremont Street Experience stands as a proud symbol of Las Vegas’s lively spirit and togetherness.
